Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, a game that, although following its own enclosed storyline, is for all intents and purposes heavily tied to the Green Lantern film. It features the likeness and voice of Ryan Reynolds, and a lot of side characters are tied to characters in the film. As a result, to my mind it falls under the movie-license game category. It also came out today, and IGN wasn’t sent any early copies — usually a sign that publishers aren’t confident that the game will be well reviewed. Here’s the thing, though; what I played was pretty good.
Now, I only played the very first introductory section of the game, where the Manhunters, a race of robots hell-bent on wiping out life, invade the home world of the Green Lanterns. It was purely combat-focused, and it felt very similar to God of War, very fast paced, very combo-heavy, very fluid. A dashing ability allowed me to keep combos going, and using constructs (the objects that Green Lanterns form with their minds) let me fill in gaps in my basic attacks and inflict special effects.
